Dear Earth, what six things do you need from us in 2020?On 1st January 2020 by Satya
One. You need us to enjoy you. You need us to lean into your soft brilliant mosses and watch the flamingo-pink cyclamen pirouette up from your dark skin. You need us to be wowed by your star-blanket and your talking trees and your luminous deep sea creatures. You need us to know that your raindrops on our cheeks are kisses.
Two. You need a brave few to raise the alarm – to wade upstream against the raging current of our broken systems. You need us to speak up clearly and loudly to our governments and big corporations and to all the parts of people that are strangling you for profit and power. You need us to say NO.
Three. You need us to be changed by loving you. You need us to remember what our ancestors knew and live lightly and gratefully on your lap. You need us to choose wisely. You need us to say please and thank you, and to only take as much as we need.
Four. You need us to shine our fierce kindness towards ourselves – the parts that despair, the parts that despise, the parts that want to solve this by dividing us into good guys and bad guys. You need us to work at healing our young parts that were abandoned or abused, because this work helps everyone.
Five. You need us to keep our eyes and ears open to your pain. You need us to allow the grief to rise up, bitter and heavy. Our grief is our most precious resource in our sacred work for you. You need us to know this in our bones, and to pass this knowledge on.
I’m passing it on.
Six. You need us to care for you, sweet darling Earth, as we would our own child.
With all my heart, Satya <3
