Dear Earth, help hold me steady.
On 15th October 2019 by SatyaDear Earth, help hold me steady.
The ground underneath me is moving like shook silk.
My life here looks the same as before – plentiful food, clothes to wash, money to earn, ordinary beauty.
And yet, the sound of police helicopters are tattooed into my ears. I dream of the dread of losing territory, and of keeping secrets. I wait for news of the next of my friends to be arrested.
I know (I can’t unknow, I can’t unknow) that you are in peril, dear Earth, that we are heading for an iceberg, and that we don’t have long to turn the huge ship round, and that most of your passengers are too busy soothing themselves to notice.
I don’t know whether my desperate actions are improving your prognosis, darling Earth, or alienating people. I don’t know whether it’s already too late.
Help hold me steady. Help me delight in the generous crop of dandelion leaves in the vegetable patch – our bunnies’ favourite food. Remind me how small I am in your vastness, and that your fate doesn’t rest on my shoulders. Help me relish the dazzling sugars in your dying leaves. Show me the golden connections with my fellow humans that hold me like a web of elastic wherever I turn. Help me transmute my grief to praise.
I lie on my back on my office carpet, you underneath me, and I breathe.
Right now you are holding me steady. From here I can go forwards. I can do the next right thing, which is boiling water for nourishing tea.
Love, Satya <3
