Dear Earth, we tie ourselves in knots.
On 8th January 2020 by SatyaWe have a furry blanket to snuggle under when watching TV, and when it’s not over our knees we fold it and rest it on the back of the sofa. Roshi, pictured, has deemed this a fine place for a morning nap.
This reminds me of butterflies, charging up by spreading their wings and basking in sunshine. This reminds me of water, finding the most easeful route from A to B. This reminds me of carrot peelings becoming compost.
You show us how to find the easy route, dear Earth. You don’t want us to tie ourselves in elaborate knots. What is the most important thing today? Where can we scatter a little kindness? What simple thing is asking to be done next? Taking out the rubbish? Some boring admin? Throwing a toy for the dog?
There will be suffering. There will be tasks that call for fierce courage. We are limited, and frail. We can trust that the water in our bodies will show us the easiest way to approach them – if we allow ourselves to be guided by something bigger than us, something a bit like gravity. And when furry blankets appear, we can sink right in and close our eyes. Just for a minute.
Love, Satya <3
